I am SO happy with this photograph! I cant believe the way it came out. 15 minutes exposure in my back garden at home. Worked much better than last time when my dad’s bedroom light was on and the light was seeping into the camera from behind the curtains. Next time make sure the whole place is as dark as possible…

Where is the Cultural Centre of Leith? And other questions…

Ode to Hiroshi Sugimoto 2.
Taken in St Andrews with my film camera looking north-east towards the sea. I tried to get the horizon exactly in the middle.

'Jupiter'
And that’s why I love photography. Because it gives me something to do before I die.

'Orion'
This is a photograph of the constellation of Orion over my wee village. Exposure was I think about 15 minutes on widest aperture. Not too bad. I have photo-shopped it black and white though. The best thing about coming home is that I can see the stars so clearly with no orange glare from city lights. The sky is beautiful and terrifying. It poses so many questions like what the hell is beyond space? Which we are answered with ‘more space’. Why if there are infinite stars is the sky not completely light? Well, because of time and distance sort of. And are we alone? Well, no, because then the fact that I am wasting my life is a troubling one. I like to think there is another one of me in another universe that is getting it right.

Merry Christmas from Edinburgh!
The usual merriment on Princes Street and in the gardens. It looks less cheesy in black and white… :D

'Tall ship, Leith'
Taken on an especially misty dusk in Leith, Edinburgh while on a photographic survey of the area for the latest architecture project. Also wrote a short poem on the subject but it was no good. :S Must try harder…

'Courthold Courtyard'
In London while visiting the Courthold Gallery. Super-architectural spaces and elemental performances.

'Shoes on the Underground'
I love the tube. I know people hate it but I think it is just the best place with the best sounds and the best faces to nosy at. Yes it smell of dust and BO but it’s charismatic and eccentric. If it were a person it would be a fusty old lady who collects figurines and old postcards. I wonder how many people have accidentally made eye contact with each other when moving so quickly. Awkward or sparky?

'Ode to Hiroshi Sugimoto'
And here I am again after a departure of some months due to work and laziness etc… Updating some parts of life and noting down twiglets for reminders…
Having been to a Hiroshi Sugimoto exhibition at the Modern in Edinburgh I was inspired to take a shot of the Turbine Hall in the Tate Modern. Everything is modern these days… resting the camera on the hand-rail and opening shutter for about 10s. Should have done it for much longer with a tripod obviously but I am just learning. The Sugimoto Exhibition was also a pivotal moment when I realised a few special things which will maybe said one day but not just yet. Its the type of thing that Imogen Heap would maybe write a song about but I obviously don’t have the talent. So this is to remind myself that if I ever get the talent I could express this moment.

Analog camera outings. My first go at using a manual analog film camera. It was such fun to use and comes out with some lovely accidents. I love lovely accidents. :x

‘A green destiny.’
Let’s ride bikes more and be free. I don’t but that doesn’t mean to say that you can’t. :D
Sing it out loud and let yourself free…
